Beraberce – Together: International professional practice as an additional qualification

The occupational integration of young people with a migration background is of particular importance for Berlin, a city of diversity. In view of its size, this need particularly applies to the Turkish community. Through the mobility project “BERABERCE – TOGETHER”, 30 Berlin trainees from commercial/technical and business professions had the opportunity to complete an additional three-week internship in Izmir in Turkey.

We selected young people who were in their second or third year of training, have shown good performance and would otherwise not have had the opportunity to do an internship abroad. In particular, young people of Turkish origin were encouraged to participate.

The internship objectives included the improvement of vocational and social skills and practices, learning about other techniques and companies, as well as gaining insight into the training and employment situation in another country. The Turkish partners organised the internships, as well as arranging on-site appointments, supporting education managers and organising an accompanying sports and cultural programme, all in an outstanding manner.

The young people valued the internship as a personal and professional benefit for their motivation and career perspectives. It has brought new experiences and strengthened intercultural understanding for all involved. Furthermore, it has increased the opportunities in the (European) labour market.

“Some things can’t hold up against the technical standards in Germany. On the other hand, I was shown new or different methods to approach a repair. I really like the more careful way of dealing with material and the tricky search for solutions.”
