Skills 4.0 Mobil – The Skill Set of the Digital Workplace

In our private lives, at work or in public – the digital transformation is inexorable. Realising and dealing with the new potentials, needs and requirements of digitalisation is becoming increasingly important.

Especially for small and medium-sized enterprises, digitalisation is one of the biggest challenges today, apart from the shortage of skilled workers. Tech-savvy employees with digital skills are increasingly in demand. This requires not only an adaption of the content and methods of VET but also improved teaching skills of trainers.

The mobility project „Skills 4.0“ by BGZ offers a discussion platform at the European level for vocational training personnel. Trainers and teachers can exchange their experiences of the latest developments in their industries during three, four-day seminars and workshops. They can also discuss the integration of new technologies and concepts in VET, as well as new ways of imparting these viable and sustainable skills.

The aim of the seminars and workshops is threefold: promoting job market orientation, stimulating cooperation between VET and higher education, and strengthen innovation in VET.

The project focuses on two sectors:

1. Logistics

Digitalisation is currently the most important and urgent topic in the field of logistics. Innovative Industry 4.0 technologies are being developed at a rapid pace, changing both internal and external processes, as well as having an impact across sectors. In the near future, flexible networks and big data solutions instead of rigid supply chains will play a central role in logistics.

For a successful implementation of new concepts and a meaningful application of new technologies, qualified workers are needed to pave the way and tread the path. However, the integration of such concepts and technologies into the vocational training in logistics in Germany is only just beginning.

2. Healthcare

An aging society and a shortage of medical personnel in rural areas – these are just two examples of the challenges that the healthcare sector is facing in the future. Digital technologies and new concepts can help coping with these challenges.

Digitalisation also offers new opportunities for improvement in nursing care. Technological innovations, e.g. sensor mats with alarm function, reduce the time spent on control and routine activities. This reopens up space for personal care and human interaction.

Germany is lagging behind in the application of digitalisation in healthcare and is consequently lacking in adequate education and training of healthcare professionals. Through its exchange platform, the mobility project „Skills 4.0“ can generate impulses for securing skilled workers and making greater use of ICT applications in practice.
