Handwerk Mobil – Exchange for securing the supply of skilled labour
The demographic change in some countries is bringing about a massive lack of skilled workers in the field of handicrafts. In other countries, there is a noticeable high youth unemployment rate. The trend towards the internationalisation of the markets brings about many new opportunities for European solutions.
“Handwerk Mobil” offered a platform, in which professionals in vocational education and training (VETPROs) can exchange, shared and developed consistent solutions. The participants received deep insights into the vocational training systems of different countries. The aim was to increase the attractiveness of the handicraft trade and to improve the quality assurance of initial and continuing vocational education and training, in order to secure skilled employees and counteract youth unemployment. A focus was, among others, on the education of young people with special educational needs. This target group should be supported in improving their qualifications and competences to have a promising perspective.
The mobility project had, with close cooperation with the Berlin Chamber of Small Business and Skilled Crafts, open up new opportunities for know-how and Good Practice transfer. The developed strategies and mutual learning were helpful for all participants. The cooperation model had a positive effect on the education, as well as on the enterprises and therefore created a foundation for the sustainable securing the supply of skilled labour. Altogether 26 VETPROs from the handicrafts sector of Berlin participated in the four and seven day long exchange in Austria (Vienna) and Spain (Barcelona).
